Myskina Review

by Vassily

Watching the Myskina vs. Pratt match was definitely more than exciting, especially for Anastasia’s fans. It would be right to say “extremely tense”. She played not her best tennis yesterday that is for sure, while Pratt played her regular game. She began the match not in the best way: she lost the first set with the score 6-3. That was doe to her serve (only 55% of first serves where correct and she won only 43% on them) and a lot! of unforced errors. At this point of the match it was clear that something was wrong. The second set was not better than the first at the start: Pratt was leading 3-1 before Myskina started fighting back. As a result the score leveled at 4-4. But that was hard to achieve. In all 3 in those games the referee announced “deuce” numerous times. The rest of the match was played quite strangely. In one game Nastya played with the score 40-0 in her favour, and in another she is losing with the same advantage to her opponent. That’s how you explain the 7-6 second set. Hopefully, the tiebreaker was one of the successful games. All this continued to 4-4 in the second set, although Myskina was the one who took the first game. After this Anastasia won two games in a row, which brought her the victory. Although it was extremely tense situation when leading Pratt 5-4 there was yet another deuce and then Pratt’s advantage. I think everyone watching knew that if Pratt won that game, the match could have hers. Hopefully, it was not, as Anastasia secured a place in the third round with a hard 3-6 7-6 6-4 win. But her next opponent is Elena Dementieva and Anastasia will have to do better in that one, as her compatriot posted a confident 6-1 6-1 win overt Husarova.
